Exit Oh, enter Govic at DPMM

DPMM FC yesterday moved to closer to signing Croatian midfielder Drazen Govic from Croatia's first division HNK Sibenik.

Govic, who has been on trial with the Brunei club since last week, yesterday trained with the team at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium as DPMM prepared for their league match against Albirex today.

DPMM hope to sign the Croatian midfielder before the transfer window closes on July 24th.

Oh, who scored 12 goals for the Super Reds last season has not been at his best this season and has also found the back of the net only twice for DPMM.

Pg Hj Md Waslimin, the DPMM team manager, told that the the club had been given Oh a good chance to prove himself but he couldn't adapt to the team's style of play.

Govic meanwhile, said that he was very keen to join with the team.

"Ive been around town and think that this is a fantastic country. The club has a very ggod stadium too," said Govic after their training session yesterday."It is very different here and the weather is very hot.I hope that everything will proceed smoothly and I will be part of the team."

When asked about this latest development, DPMM head coach Vjeran Simunic said: "I don't know what the club will choose to do but Ddog Yi is not training with us anymore."

Simunic however, does know about Govic - having coached the player in Croatia.

"I do know Govic personally because I've coached him for five years back in Croatia," said Simunic yesterday. "Now it is up to him to pass the fitness test in Singapore so that he can return to Brunei to play with us."

The coach also rates Govic highly saying: "He is a very good player and probably one of the most famous to come here.He can almost be considered as one of the best players there in Croatia's first division.A lot of clubs want to sign him."I don't know why he decided to come here.Maybe it is more adventurous here," he added.

Having said that Simunic then turned his attention to today's game against Albirex Niigata.

"We want to concentrate on the game at the moment.I'm thinking of starting two strikers for the match," said the Croatian coach.

He expects the game to be difficult even though DPMM have not lose at home all season.

"We may not have lost at home this season but then we have to respect Albirex as they are a very good team.We had a tough 1-0 win the last time we met them in the League Cup," said Simunic.

The Croatian coach is also happy with the performance of his bench after the League Cup and is confident that they are ready for tonight's match.

But there is one major problem for Simunic today.

"Defender Yusof Salleh is currently down with a fever so I'm thinking of putting Safari to start in his place," continued Simunic.

Albirex Niigata coach Naruo Naoki, expects a very tough game with the Bruneians.

"We just have to do our best as they have not dropped any points at their home ground," Naoki told the S-League website.

Albirex Niigata wlll have a full squad for their visit to Brunei today.

DPMM FC have lost two of their previous games in a row - both away from home , first to Sengkang Punggol and then Tampines Rovers - and are looking to return to winning ways against the Japanese outfit. DPMM are currently placed fourth in the 12-team table on 32 points.
