DPMM FC on the verge of exit

DPMM FC could face the axe. I know rumours have been going around with regards to DPMM FC’s status in the S.League. But if it’s true, DPMM FC have no choice but to be taken off the S.League. Why? Because there’s a technicality issue with regards to BAFA which have been de-registered. DPMM FC’s entry to the S.League was assisted and sanctioned by AFC.

However, a letter from FIFA, few months ago, has given a deadline for BAFA to be re-instated by 6th June which is highly unlikely. This news have come to a huge embarrassment in terms of Brunei football where it all started when BAFA was de-registered and the new born FFBD (Football Federation Brunei Darussalam). I doubt an extension will be given to DPMM FC in the S.League’s participation. FIFA are taking this matter seriously and it’s a big shame that it has to happen during the course of the season.

With the DST Brunei Premier League starting, DPMM FC now have no competitive matches as they are not registered in the FFBD due to lack of recognition in the eyes of FIFA. Here’s the scenario.

1) BAFA failed to present report for many years.

2) BAFA got de-registered by RoS in Nov 2008.

3) FFBD formed in January 2009.

4) AFC boss visited Brunei and FFBD is not recognised.

5) DPMM FC joined S.League with help of AFC in Feb 2009.

6) FIFA sent letter to DPMM FC and gave deadline should BAFA not being reinstated.

7) DPMM FC could face the axe, halfway through the season soon.

The implications should DPMM FC face the axe.

1) Less football culture. Did you know that non-soccer fans still turn up just to be part of the social football culture especially in DPMM FC matches?

2) No more excitement and thrill as the atmosphere in DPMM FC’s matches are unrivaled.

3) Drop in merchandise sales such as magazines and t-shirts.

4) No gate receipts. Normally attendance is 4,000 on average with a $5 price tag. Highest attendance was during DPMM FC vs SAF FC with 11,500 spectators.

5) The future of the import players of DPMM FC is unknown. Komar is the longest serving import player so far.

6) I won’t be able to get paid for my coverage on home matches *lol*

7) Sponsors won’t have their presence felt as DPMM FC’s season is short lived

8)No more coffee talks about DPMM FC’s great run

9) But more coffee talks on DPMM FC’s exit

10) More people watching Brunei Premier League but a lot to catch up in terms of interest.

I’ve just realised that the battle between the defunct BAFA and the formation of FFBD have caused so much damage to our football nation. There are many pros and cons but at the end of the day, they all result to failure. It’s good to see a new jump start in Brunei football but if it’s not being recognised by FIFA, then it’s still a renegade football association in the eyes of FIFA.
